Recap

Black (& White stripped) Ice

Oakland, CA -- Despite a pair of goals from Scott Gehring, the Puck'n A fell to Black Ice by a score of 4-3. The major swing in the game was when referee Matt Sardo (yes, referee) called Scott Gehring for a double minor late in the 3rd period. Clearly the call should have been two minutes each, but the extra two assessed to Gehring gave Black Ice the man advantage. Something they were willing to take advantage of.

Black Ice took first blood, scoring only 33 seconds into the game, but the Puck'n A bounced back a mear 18 seconds later to even the score. Scott Gehring later tied it up again at 8:19 and Bob Cushman gave the team it's first lead at 6:08 (3-2).

At 4:10, Black Ice got a break. Ron Steele had what looked to be an easily stopped puck, but it rebounded off of him and into the goal through the five hole. It was a tough break, but those things happen. Steele held the opponents scoreless for the entire second period and most of the third.

The loss is only the second time in the teams 5 season history to start a season with a loss. Ironically enough, last season's 2nd place team did the same with a 3-2 heartbreaker to Team Acme.
