Recap

Season Ends with a Victory

Oakland, CA -- The Puck'n A finished off the season with the modest record of 4-5-0, two of which were against Team Acme. Much like the last game (Week 2) they played, it came down to the third period.

Team Acme opened the scoring early at 12:53 by converting an excellent pass and slipping one past netminder Ron "Caveman" Steele. It wasn't until there were mearly three and a half minutes left and the Puck'n A were on the power play that Tom Bondur fired a shot past Team Acme's keeper.

Round two was a bit more active. A late 1st period penalty put the Puck'n A on the power play to open the second and it took little time for Bob Cushman to notch his 3rd of the season to capture the lead. Team Acme fought back quickly and tied the game at 11:45 on a goal by "Sardo" and shortly thereafter took the lead on a shot by #25. Things were looking bleak as the Puck'n A were down 3-2 and shorthanded when Scott Gehring turned on the jets and scored a shorty to knot the score at three goals apiece. Team Acme closed out the period by scoring with less than two minutes left to take a one goal lead into the third.

The game was being played pretty carefully in the third. Team Acme killed an early Puck'n A powerplay, but Jeff Robison scored his first of the season at even strength with exactly 10 minutes left to play. It took another six minutes and a 5th powerplay for Bob Cushman to get his 4th of the season and second of the evening. This goal also gave the Puck'n A the lead with less than five minutes left. Jeff Robison got his second as well just under the one minute mark and increased the lead to a pair of goals.

Playing hard to the end, Team Acme scored with 26 seconds remaining to close the gap. They then pulled their netminder for the man advantage, but a pair of face-off wins by Mitch Wright and a final face-off win by Scott Gehring put the game in the books.
