The first period was a virtual stalemate. Troy Gehring rang a shot off the left post and the Penguins had very little penetration in the Puck'n A zone. Then came the second period and the Puck'n A showed their wear. Within two minutes the Penguins notched their first score. The Puck'n A held strong for nearly 4 minutes until the score became 2-0. Another four minutes wound down when the Penguins really broke the game open scoring two goals in the span of 43 seconds.
Al Lessa, in what could probably only be described as a bout of frustration, fired in a shot from behind the center line. The shot jumped off the goalie's leg pad and broke the Penguins shutout bid. The Penguins, however, closed the period by scoring with 39 seconds left.
Despite a tiring crew, the Puck'n A tried to hold their own. The Penguins tallied another early in the 3rd making the score 6-1. However, at 10:26 Troy Gehring, weaving through the Penguins defense dropped a pass back to Juan Castillo who buried a quick shot into the back of the net. "I saw the goalie closing in on the puck", said Juan Castillo after the game, "but he just wasn't fast enough". That score was Juan's third goal of the season and 4th point -- doubling last season's output.
The Penguins proceeded to go for the jugular notching goals at 6:24 and 5:35 to put the game away. Chris McGrew put in his 4th of the season to close out the scoring for the game.
To insure themselves of a .500 record, the Puck'n A must defeat last season's league champions Blew By U and Team Acme in the next two weeks. Their record now stands at 3-4-0 heading into week 8.
