Recap

Shark's bite non-fatal

Oakland, CA -- Troy Gehring led the team with his first hat trick while everyone else pitched in at least one point. Six of the eight players for the evening scored two points or more, and three had two or more goals. It was a crucial win for the team, now 3-3-0 and fighting for a higher seed in the upcoming playoffs.

Troy Gehring led off the scoring at 15:59 by fighting for a loose puck and slipping it past the netminder. Al Lessa followed it up with a goal of his own making it 2-0 with less than 6 minutes gone in the contest.

Tim Tessin scored his first career goal on a rather odd shot. He fired a hard shot towards the net which was deflected by a defensemans stick and looped up and over the goalie. Looked like a hand grenade lobbed in from the point. His tally increased the lead to 3-0. Scott Gehring got in the act by taking a face off won by Juan Castillo and flipping it past and unsuspecting goalie. The other brother in the tandem finished off the period with his second from Chris McGrew at 3:20.

The second round was rather quiet until Mitch Wright slipped the puck past the Sharks netminder who came out into a crow of Sharks defenders in an effort to cover up a pinballing puck. Al Lessa later notched his second of the evening and increased the lead to 7-0 to end the period.

The Sharks came out fighting early in the third. A marvelous display of tic-tac-toe passing gave them their first goal (#1 from #77, and #24) breaking up Ron "Caveman" Steele's shutout bid. Troy Gehring later regained the 7-goal lead and scoring his first hat trick only four minutes later. Things quieted down from there and the Sharks managed to squeeze one more past Cave (#33 - unassisted); however, as fate might have it, the seven goal lead was restored by Mitch Wright at 2:41. Mitch, again, got ahold of a loose puck in front of the net and amongst a crowd of defenders and slipped it into the back of the net for his second garbage goal of the night and final goal of the game.

The Puck'n A finally put away a team which they clearly should have beaten. Much too often the club "plays down" and finds themselves on the losing end of a game that should have otherwise been won. Kudo's to the white and maroon.... or should it just be said  --  Puck'n A  !
