Recap

Loss number 2: Three goals in under 4:00

Oakland, CA -- In just under 4:00 minutes the Red Dogs netted 3 goals to regain the lead and send the Puck'n A on a two game slide. The loss puts the Puck'n A's record at 2-2-0 through four games.

The team skated with just 8 players, but the two lines seemed to click pretty well. The Red Dogs got an early power play goal, scoring at 12:31 of the first to take an early lead. It wasn't until 4:55 left when Troy Gehring notched his third goal of the season to tie the game at one goal apiece. The Puck'n A had 4 penalties called in the first period, the last of which was actually registered in the second since time ran out after the call. ``We played most of the period on the penalty kill'', said team captain Mitch Wright, ``and I'm just happy we came out of the period with an even score''.

The second period was rather quiet with just the typical end to end action you would expect. Finally at the 2:23 mark Troy Gehring fed a beautiful pass over to Mitch Wright who buried it into the back of the net giving his team a 2-1 lead late in the second.

The lead carried over into the third when midway through Bob Cushman got his first of the season in his first game back to bump that lead to 3-1. The team was really jazzed at that point, but the Red Dogs weren't about to give up. At 5:17 Red Dogs' defenseman #4 skated through traffic, pulled up and fired one past an unsuspecting Ron Steele giving them their second powerplay goal of the evening. One minute later he took a pass from #88 (Todd Klatt) and tied the score at three.

The Gehring/Wright/Bondur/Castillo line had a great chance late in the third as Mitch Wright dug a loose puck out of the corner and snapped a pass out to Juan Castillo on the right point. Juan skated in a stride and fired on in on goal. The shot rang off the left post and to the boards.

With the offense pressing and the defense pinching, the Red Dogs snuck a forward behind center and managed an outlet pass to him. That was the only chance #9 needed, firing a shot pass Caveman for the game winner.

Next week the Puck'n A face Penguins I which destroyed Penguins II in early action. This game will tip the scales, putting the Puck'n A above or below the .500 mark.
