Despite 20 minutes in penalties, the Puck'n A held off Jimmy and the Fly Boys for the 5-4 win evening their record to 3-3-0 with 3 games left in the regular season.
Chris McGrew led the team with 4 points (2 goals and 2 assists), but it was Bob Cushman with the last minute heroics by chipping in the final goal with just 24 seconds remaining in the third.
Jimmy and the Fly Boys took an early 2-0 lead before Chris McGrew scored his first of the night with nine seconds left in the first period. Midway through the second Chris scored again evening the score at 2 apiece, however just two minutes later the Fly Boys took the lead again carrying it into the final period.
Two minutes into the third Chris McGrew took a lame roughing call and Mitch Wright was called for a bench minor (arguing the call slightly) which put the Puck'n A down 2 men. Despite the deficit, the team pulled through and at the ten minute mark Tom Bondur netted his first of the evening to tie it up for the second time. Not much longer and Tom put in his second to give the Puck'n A their first lead of the game.
The Fly Boys fought back and managed to slip yet another puck past the Caveman to tie the game again. Shortly thereafter, Scott Gehring was called for a 10:00 misconduct for using foul language towards the referee. Fortunately this did not put the team down a player, and in the closing seconds Bob Cushmans heroics put the team up for good.
Next week the Puck'n A are back to Thursday night to face the Rangers. This is a critical game if they want to be in the winners bracket for this season's playoffs.
