Fly Boys swatted down in first round

Oakland, CA -- Five goals from five different players propelled the Puck'n A to a first round playoff victory and the opportunity to face Puckzilla in round number two. A win puts the Puck'n A back into the championship game while a loss puts them back to next season.

Mitch Wright opened the scoring late in the first period by gobbling up the rebound off a booming Al Lessa shot and flipping it over an outstretched netminder. The second period, however, had a bit more action. Bob Cushman took a feed from Chris McGrew to give the Puck'n A a two goal lead, but Jimmy and his Fly Boys cut that lead in half only 90 seconds later. The second period ended with a 2-1 lead for the Puck'n A.

The third period was a battle unless Al Lessa struck at 6:20 to open the lead up again. The Fly Boys weren't going to go easy -- scoring at 2:29 to once again reduce the lead to a single goal. #00's shot was blocked by Puck'n A d-man Tim Tessin, but #91 managed to pick up the stray puck and put it past Ron Caveman Steele. Tom Bondur bumped the lead again just 45 seconds later and Chris McGrew stole the puck from a Fly Boy defenseman and rammed the puck home to close the game with only 4 seconds left.

Despite the score, this game could have gone either way, but the Puck'n A put it all togeather and pulled out with the win. This brings the team to the much anticipated rematch with Puckzilla. Puckzilla defeated the Puck'n A in game 4 of this season by the score of 8-5, but where upset in last season's second round playoff game which vaulted the Puck'n A to their first championship game appearance. The rematch is set for 7pm on 12 June 1997.
