Recap

Puck'n A make it two in a row

Oakland, CA -- Juan Castillo had a career high 3 points and Jeff Robison scored his team high 7th goal of the season as the Puck'n A flew by the flightless Penguins I squad by a score of 4-2.

The Penguins I took an early lead by scoring just 90 seconds into the game, but Bob Cushman notched his second of the season by jarring the puck out from underneath the Pens netminder and into the net. Just three minutes later, Jeff Robison put in his 7th of the season followed closely by Eddie Bell making his second tally for the team. The Penguins then closed out the period with a goal narrowing the lead.

The second period yielded a single score, that being by the vastly improved Juan Castillo. Troy Gehring threw a puck out in front of the net and Juan buried it as he was charging the net. This was the final nail in the Penguins I coffin and concluded the scoring for the game.

There was, however, an on-going sideshow. Scott Gehring and the Penguins I #44 had more than their share of meetings. Early in the third #44 took a double minor as he checked Scott into the boards and as Scott squeaked away (with the puck), #44 chased his to the front of his own net and laid on a high stick worthy of an even greater penalty. Later in the period they each got a 2:00 minute penalty for holding as they tied each other up at the face-off circle during play. #44 closed his escapades with a crosschecking penalty with just a minute left and was ejected for receiving his 4th penalty of the evening.

And just so there doesn't seem to be any bias... Mitch Wright managed to miss an empty net goal with under 3 seconds remaining. He did an Owen Nolan and got nothing but outside pipe.

Interesting sidenote... #44 -- 4 + 4 = 8. And #8 was the instigator in the fight at the Puck'n A -vs- Penguins II game. Perhaps this is a case for the X-files? Nah! We'll just file the W and be done with it.

Next up is a strong Armageddon team. Armageddon won the first meeting back on 31 July 1997 by a score of 2-1 in a closely fought game.
